Finally got the sql.log to print with the mxODBC errors. Found the crux of the problem, but not exactly sure how to fix it.

Here's the first piece of the log:

[ODBC][28851][SQLAllocHandle.c][345]

Entry:

Handle Type = 2

Input Handle = 0x9f282c8

[ODBC][28851][SQLAllocHandle.c][463]

Exit:[SQL_SUCCESS]

Output Handle = 0x91cac08

[ODBC][28851][SQLDriverConnect.c][678]

Entry:

Connection = 0x91cac08

Window Hdl = (nil)

Str In = [DSN=MyServer2k;UID=tswdata_user;PWD=*******][length = 43 (SQL_NTS)]

Str Out = 0x2d9ac98

Str Out Max = 512

Str Out Ptr = 0x2d9ac96

Completion = 0

UNICODE Using encoding ASCII 'ISO8859-1' and UNICODE 'UCS-2LE'

[ODBC][28851][SQLConnect.c][1012]Can't open lib '/usr/local/freetds/lib/libtdsodbc.so' : /usr/local/freetds/lib/libtdsodbc.so: cannot open shared object file: Permission denied

[ODBC][28851][SQLError.c][424]

etc,etc,etc,

Funny that /usr/local/freetds/lib is in the ld.so.conf file. I had removed ld.so.cache and ran ldconfig. The libtdsodbc.so is symbolically linked with 755 permissions. I don't understand why the permission denied error would come up.

[xxxxx at xxxxx lib]# ldd libtdsodbc.so
        libodbcinst.so.1 => /usr/local/unixODBC/lib/libodbcinst.so.1 (0x00dac000)
        libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0x00281000)
        libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x0094a000)
        libpthread.so.0 => /lib/tls/libpthread.so.0 (0x00ede000)
        /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x004de000)
