[unixODBC-dev] unixODBC versus libiodbc: can they coexist?

A long time ago (apparently before 2000) somebody put "Conflicts: iodbc"
into the Red Hat/Fedora specfile for unixODBC.  This indicates that the
two packages are so incompatible it's not even safe to install them
together.  I'm being asked why that is, and I have no idea.  Can anyone
comment on whether such a restriction is really needed?
